Warwickshire Police
Overview
Hills Energy Management Solutions delivered a secure remote connectivity solution across Warwickshire Police’s estate to improve access to Building Management Systems at multiple sites.
The objective was to provide centralised, secure visibility of site BMS installations without relying on the force’s internal IT network. By introducing an independent remote access solution linked through a secure cloud platform, the project created a more practical, resilient and manageable approach to multi-site facilities oversight while maintaining strong security controls.
Client requirement
Warwickshire Police required a secure and reliable way to access and manage BMS installations across multiple sites without introducing dependency on the internal police IT network.
The solution needed to:
- provide centralised remote access across the estate
- operate independently of the internal IT infrastructure
- maintain a strong security standard
- improve operational visibility across multiple sites
- support a more proactive approach to estate management
The wider aim was to improve oversight, strengthen responsiveness and reduce the operational limitations that come with managing multiple standalone systems in isolation.
The challenge
The project needed to deliver remote BMS connectivity across a secure multi-site estate while maintaining clear separation from internal police IT systems.
That meant the solution had to be robust, secure and easy to manage, while still providing the level of visibility needed to support day-to-day facilities management. The client needed confidence that remote access could be introduced without creating unnecessary IT security concerns, added complexity or avoidable operational risk.
At the same time, the platform needed to support faster identification of building-related issues and provide a more connected view of site performance across the wider estate.
What we delivered
We designed and deployed a remote connectivity solution that provided each site with a secure direct link between the local BMS and a central cloud-based platform.
This removed the need to rely on the client’s internal IT network while still allowing authorised users to access system information remotely. By bringing multiple sites into a single platform, the solution gave the client a much clearer and more practical view of the estate, making it easier to monitor systems, review issues and manage sites from one place.
The platform was configured with strong security measures, including controlled user access, two-factor authentication and detailed activity logging, helping support traceability, accountability and compliance requirements.
Training was also provided so that the client’s teams could use the system confidently and make full use of its remote access and alerting functions.
System functionality
The completed solution now provides secure remote BMS access across multiple sites through a centralised cloud-based platform.
This gives authorised users estate-wide visibility of building systems without dependence on the internal police network, while also supporting secure access control and improved traceability of user activity.
By creating a more connected management environment, the platform makes it easier to review system status, identify facilities-related issues and support more efficient multi-site oversight.
The outcome
The project gave Warwickshire Police a practical and secure way to access BMS information across multiple sites without introducing dependency on internal IT systems.
By separating BMS connectivity from the internal police network, the solution reduced the security and operational concerns often associated with traditional remote access arrangements. Centralised cloud access has improved estate-wide visibility and supported a more proactive approach to facilities management by making it easier to review system status, identify issues earlier and respond more quickly.
Overall, the project delivered improved visibility, stronger remote support capability and a more secure, scalable basis for managing building systems across a multi-site estate.
