Greys Mallory Traffic Base

Overview

Hills Energy Management Solutions was commissioned to deliver a BMS upgrade at Greys Mallory Police Traffic Base after failure of the existing control panel had left the system operating manually.

The failure had affected day-to-day operation and exposed wider issues around compliance, reliability and visibility. The project required a modern replacement that would restore proper control, improve site management and bring the installation back into line with current standards.

Client requirement

The client needed to replace a failed and outdated BMS control panel that had forced the system into manual operation.

The new installation needed to:

  • restore reliable automatic control
  • improve day-to-day usability and system visibility
  • address compliance shortcomings in the existing arrangement
  • support temperature monitoring and control more effectively
  • provide a more supportable platform for future operation and maintenance
  • allow remote access for more efficient diagnostics and support

The objective was not only to get the system operational again, but to provide a more robust and compliant controls platform for the site going forward.

The challenge

The failure of the original panel had created both operational and compliance issues.

With the system running manually, the site had lost the benefits of proper automatic control and effective monitoring. At the same time, the age and condition of the previous installation meant the replacement needed to address a wider set of shortcomings rather than simply replicate what had been there before.

The project therefore needed to combine restoration of building control with a broader upgrade in compliance, usability and long-term supportability.

What we delivered

We designed, manufactured and installed a new BMS control panel to replace the failed arrangement and restore proper automatic operation across the site.

The new system was built around a Tridium Niagara 4 controller, chosen for its flexibility, supportability and ability to provide a more capable management platform. We also developed a remotely accessible graphical user interface to improve day-to-day visibility and allow faster response to system issues.

As part of the upgrade, we installed new field devices to support temperature monitoring and control and produced a detailed Operations and Maintenance manual to help the client manage the system effectively and maintain compliance over time.

System functionality

The upgraded installation now provides:

  • restored automatic BMS control
  • a modern control panel designed to current standards
  • improved temperature monitoring and control
  • a remotely accessible graphical interface
  • better visibility of system operation
  • improved supportability for maintenance and future development
  • clear documentation through a new O&M manual

This has given the site a more practical and reliable controls environment, replacing the risks and limitations of the previous failed system.

The outcome

The completed project restored reliable building control and resolved the key issues created by the failed panel and outdated installation.

The new BMS panel has improved operational reliability, brought the facility up to date with current requirements and given the site team much better visibility of system status and performance. Remote access has also improved the ability to review and respond to issues more efficiently, helping support ongoing maintenance and fault diagnosis.

The upgraded documentation and more scalable design mean the site is now in a much stronger position for future maintenance, compliance and any later system development.

Overall, the project provided a practical and future-ready replacement that improved both operational control and long-term supportability.
