What We Did

The Greys Mallory Police Traffic Base, a small but crucial facility, faced significant operational challenges and compliance issues due to an outdated BMS control panel that had failed, reverting the system to manual operation. This not only impacted operational efficiency but also led to non-compliance with current building regulations and standards. Hills Energy Management Solutions was commissioned to undertake a comprehensive system upgrade to rectify these issues.

The Challenge

The failure of the existing BMS at the Greys Mallory Police Traffic Base highlighted critical compliance shortcomings across various regulatory requirements, affecting everything from electrical safety to environmental control. The project demanded a solution that would not only restore operational functionality but also ensure full compliance with contemporary standards, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), and communication protocols necessary for integration with other building systems.

 

Our Approach

To address the challenges faced by the Greys Mallory Police Traffic Base, our team embarked on a focused project to design, manufacture, and install a state-of-the-art BMS control panel. Key components of our approach included:

• Implementing a Tridium Niagara4 Controller. This advanced controller was selected for its compliance capabilities and operational flexibility.
• Developing a Remotely Accessible Graphic User Interface. This interface was crucial for enhancing system management and ensuring swift response capabilities.
• Creating a Comprehensive Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manual. This manual provided clear, detailed guidelines for maintaining system compliance and efficiency.
• Installing Advanced Field Devices for Temperature Monitoring and Control. These upgrades were essential for ensuring compliance with environmental and energy efficiency standards.

Outcomes

The new BMS control panel successfully addressed previous compliance failures, bringing the facility up to date with all current regulations.

The comprehensive system upgrade significantly enhanced the base's operational capabilities, enabling more efficient and reliable building management.

The remotely accessible user interface transformed facility management, providing the team with real-time insights and control.

The detailed O&M Manual and the scalable design of the new BMS ensure that the Greys Mallory Police Traffic Base is well equipped for future challenges and technology integrations.
